Niehaus received information about this family in time to include it as an appendix. This family did come to the US and settled originally south of St. Louis, Missouri. At different times, Johann Theobald Reifel lived in Monroe County, illinois, and in St. Louis, Missouri. In fact, this Johann Theobald Reifel may have been the earliest Reifel to immigrate to the U.S.

All of their children were born in Miami County, Kansas, even though they did live some time in Red Bud, Monroe County, Illinois.

Mary received her bachelor's degree from Indiana State University at Terre Haute. She was a teacher in the public schools at Oak Forest, St. Mary's, and in Cedar Grove, Indiana. In all, she taught about 46 years (1910 to 1956). She married Leo Arnold, a retired US Army musician, in 1945. Mary also taught Church music and played the organ at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Cedar Grove in her later years. In 1956 she broke her leg. When the leg didn't mend, as she was being taken to Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC, she suffered a paralyzing stroke. She was an invalid from 1956 until 1972 when she died in Brookville.

Like her older sister, Mary, Caroline was a teacher. She taught school for several years at Oak Forest, Indiana. Upon the death of Frank Etter's wife (a relative on her mother's side) in childbirth, Caroline traveled to northern Indiana where she cared for Frank's motherless small children. On October 4, 1917, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis at Oldenburg, Indiana. She took the name of Sister Conradine after her grandfather, Conrad. She taught various ages of children and in various places, but lastly was missioned to teach at the Oldenburg Catholic town school. In 1931 at the age of 38 she died of complications resulting from a terrible flu epidemic.

She never married.

Dorothy Mary Reifel was a teacher, and through her life gathered Reifel family history. It is because of her efforts that most of the Reifel Family History by Charles W. Niehaus was available for publication. Dorothy was a born teacher like her father, Charles. She received an AB degree from Ball State University and a Master's Degree in education from the University of Cincinnati. She also took all of the courses necessary to qualify for a doctoral degree in education. She taught for 56 years, all of which were in Franklin County, Indiana, except 6 years. She taught English and Social Studies in the elementary and high schools. She never married, but gave herself to the teaching profession.

She never married.

William Frank Reifel was a teacher and banker. He attended Ball State University and then taught for one year at Oak Forest, Franklin County, Indiana. He then attended the Miller School of Business in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1924 he went to work at the Franklin County National Bank. In all he spent 55 and a half years working at the bank. During the last 10 years he was the bank president and chairman of the board. He is a 50-year member of the Indiana Bankers Association, of which he was the second vice-president at one time. He was a director emeritus of the Franklin County National Bank near the end of his life.
